Jade Fish and the I Ching

Here is the real Zhou Dynasty green jade fish pendant which inspired me in the story. Where did it come from and who wore it? What was the history behind this mysterious fish?

On three occasions, Jade Fish visits the Wise Woman, Chen Shui, to discover more about her destiny. The woman does readings from an ancient taoist oracle called the I Ching, or Book of Changes. By drawing yarrow sticks at random, she builds up a hexagram, which gives a wise, but often puzzling response to the question put to it.
