Working as a kitchen girl in a rich magistrate's house, Jade Fish, aged 13, gets into trouble and is helped by the very old and very famous Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu. He will help her to track down her mysterious identity and also her 'path' in life, 
her Tao. How can his strange philosophy help the girl (and all of us...?)?

In BOOK TWO, Jade Fish is 16 and her fortunes have changed with the help of Lao Tzu. But he is no longer there and her state is threatened with invasion by the murderous Qin from the neighbouring country.

In the final BOOK THREE, Jade Fish, is aged 19 and has a baby son. She faces terrible problems as her state is now occupied by the Qin. How far will she go to help her people and those she loves?
