Jade Fish and the Master is an epic adventure story about a teenage girl in China during the Period of the Warring States. The trilogy involves philosophical ideas, as Jade Fish learns about her past and her strange destiny, but she has to face hard choices as she tries to follow her Master's 'Tao'.

Jade Fish is an orphan, aged 13, who is helped by the famous philosopher Lao Tzu (and his black water buffalo) to find out more about her past and her strange destiny.

The series is fictional, but is based on some real historical people and events. All the references and poems are based on real Chinese texts of the period.

All the girl knows is that she was found in the mountains as a baby by some shepherds. She was wearing a mysterious green jade fish pendant round her neck. Nobody knew who she was or why she had been left there.
